What is love? Love is a very trendy word and often one of the most abused words in the glossary. It is recognized by all men. Even a small child has his own concept of love. Then again, only a few understand the real definition of the word love. Some deem love as amorous and tender feeling. Others describe love as a strong affinity towards another person, animal or thing.
It seems that love is vague and very complicated to describe. You can graze hundreds of dictionaries, infamous psychology books and authors yet they all fail to define the true meaning and essence of love. To know the real meaning of love, we should refer to God, the author of love. In fact, God is love.
God does not simply love but He is love. It is His very essence. Everything God does, arise from His love. It is not the same love that people are familiar of.
The bible describes love in the book of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 as “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails”
With this definition of love, you will know that love is not just a feeling or a matter of great affection, desire and choice. Most people have a false impression of being and staying in love. Commonly, people only focus on the pureness and the affinity. For certain, it is effortless to love your family or a acquaintances who have been with you through thick and thin. But suppose you cannot find any goodness on him or her? Say, you are not related or worse enemy. How will you delicacy him or her? Are you prepared to do the things mentioned in the bible?
Unconditional is defined as final or not limited by any stipulations or state of affairs. Readiness to love and to do the things described in the bible despite who the person is and what he or she does is called unconditional love. This kind of love was demonstrated by God when he send His Son to save us from death. And He did this while we were all sinners and not fit of the priceless gift of eternal life. God loved us although we are disloyal and disobedient. Our nature does not know how to love others truly even ourselves. But because God showed His love through His son Jesus, we now have a good picture of love and most of all – unconditional love.
You may be asking if humans are adept to love unconditionally. The good thing is that God has given those who receive His son Jesus the gift of eternal life and the ability to love unconditionally. This is because of the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells on them.
Comprehending God’s love gives wholeness to your life. His unconditional can bring definition and importance to life. Allow God to show and experience His love through believing in His son Jesus Christ and devoting your life to Him. Then love will certainly overflow and empowers you to love other people unconditionally through the Holy Spirit.
